Lena Aisha: Founder & Editor in Chief of Flaura Wellness

Lena is the founder and editor in chief of Flaura Wellness - a digital wellness platform that produces positive and uplifting content for women.

What inspired you to start Flaura Wellness?

I was first inspired to start FLAURA after experiencing burnout - it really made me take a more dedicated approach to wellness. I had also noticed the amount of negative content on the internet and wanted to create a positive space for women that was conducive to growth.

What is the most exciting initiative you are working on now?

Right now, I’m developing a FLAURA podcast to sit alongside our other catalogue of content. It will hopefully be a useful deep dive into different wellness topics (food, health, fitness) with some interesting individuals. I’m excited to have and share these meaningful conversations.

Looking back to when you started, what would be your best advice for dealing with set backs?

FLAURA launched right as lockdowns began to hit across the globe and so that was about as major a setback as we could encounter. When you’re hit with a setback, which will inevitably happen at some or many points in your journey, it’s important to be optimistic. Having the courage to remain hopeful, even in the face of adversity, is really the only thing that’s going to keep you pushing forward. Not to mention it’ll inspire your team to also keep going.

How do you curate brands for Flaura Wellness?

Our mission is to help our readers live happier and healthier lives, so we try to curate brands that are in line with that, be that organic skincare, sustainable fashion etc. We also look to spotlight women-owned brands and brands that are inclusive or owned by people of colour – it’s so important that these demographics are not only represented, but championed.

Do you have any favourite brand/s at the moment?

I’m a huge fan of Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini’s The Attico. I love their pieces and the brand that they’ve created – it’s a real call back to the glamour days but done in an elevated way.

What advice do you have for entrepreneurs who are about to launch their venture?

Firstly, I would say to be very consistent. The one thing that is likely going to determine whether or not you succeed is how long you’ll keep running for – as the saying goes, it’s a marathon, not a race. It’s important to adjust your mind-set and your habits accordingly, and this is something that I’m working on doing every day. I would also say that it’s extremely important to have supportive people around you who can help keep you motivated – I wrote a piece over on FLAURA about the 4 types of friends every young entrepreneur should have and I do think your relationships can have an incredible impact on your trajectory.

What's your favourite ThreeDots flavour and why?

I’m a huge fan of all three flavours and ThreeDots has now become my go-to sparkling water brand…but if I had to pick one then I’d say the peach rooibos. I love how calming and mellow the flavour is.

What do you do to unwind after a long day?

My wind down routine is standard – I meditate, pop on a hydrating face mask, light a candle, and ask Alexa to play some relaxing music.

Do you have any ‘words of wisdom’ that you live by?

“Build therefore your own world.” - Emerson
